![]() While the Kickstarter cards were meant for the original founders in extremely limited quantity, 1st edition Cryptid Nation is the first set to be released for the general public. These cards were printed in 2,500 booster boxes, 1,000 spellbooks, 2,000 blister packs, and 500 of each of the five theme decks. These cards are the first printing of the base set Cryptid Nation and are distinguished by the Kickstarter symbol on the art of the card in the lower right hand corner. With the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign, the Kickstarter edition cards were created. ![]() Lastly, some of these cards contain early, now changed, effects, damage or life points. Sample cards are also notable for the limited printing as each card has only 100 copies. These cards are distinguished by their black border and set symbol. Lastly, Terra cards are used to enact 4th wall effects, e.g. Artifacts are played like Beasties they have life points but lack attacks, strengths, and 4th wall effects. Spells and Potions have similar functions and are both one-use effect cards. Beasties are monsters that can be used to attack and defend similar to most other card games. Aura pages are the resources for playing any particular page there are 11 types of aura: Cosmic, Dark, Earth, Flame, Forest, Frost, Light, Lightning, Neutral, Spirit, and Water. The type of cards currently present in the game are Aura pages, Beasties, Spells, Potions, Artifacts, and Terra. Furthermore, these effects are meant to be something within your proximity (within eyesight) in order to be in effect, otherwise one would need to use a terra page instead. The 4th wall effects can increase damage or life points or have unique effects (for example, if one is close to a city or a forest, or if one has a particular item such as tin foil or pants). These effects are described on the particular page and are activated by particular real life conditions. In MetaZoo certain pages have special effects that are called 4th wall effects. The caster then uses these pages, following the conditions stated on each page, to eventually reduce their opponent's life points to 0 thereby winning the game. The caster may then contract (place) one aura (unless another page specifies otherwise) and fatigue any aura to pay for Beasties, Artifacts, Potions, or Spells. Each caster bookmarks (draws) 7 pages from the top of their spellbook and they may mulligan by reshuffling their chapter (hand) back into their spellbook and bookmarking one fewer page (they may repeat this until they are left with only one page).Īt the beginning of a casters turn they must bookmark one page from their spellbook and awaken (untap) all fatigued (tapped) aura. Each caster starts with 1000 life points and one wins by reducing their opponent's life points to 0. Casters (Players) build a spellbook (deck) of no less than 40 pages (cards), and while there is no maximum all pages must be shuffled in both hands within 2 minutes.
